How Professional Organizing Works
Consultation: We'll discuss your organizing concerns. It is normal to have more than one project or room that you want help with. The consultation will help us choose a focus. Most assessments of your needs take place during a free phone consultation. On site consultations, if needed, are available at the regular hourly rate.
We will talk about your lifestyle, work style habits and preferences. Finding out what kinds of organizing has and hasn't worked for you in the past will also help. This information helps us develop an organizing strategy for you.
Planning the Work: Our conversation will lead us to choose a first course of action for our organizing appointment. We will have a goal, a plan and necessary supplies. This way, when we meet to organize, we really hit the ground running. Large spaces or projects are always broken into manageable small jobs.
The Organizing Appointment: As we work to organize your space, you have some options as to how you wish to proceed. You can work along side the organizer, learning to organize and assisting with all aspects of the job. Or, on some types of tasks, the organizer can work with you to develop a plan for your home or office and then work alone to implement the plan. If you are interested in doing all of the organizing work yourself, then you might be interested in our Organizing Online program. Through this method, a professional organizer provides advice, support and planning via phone or email but you do the organizing. Read about Organizing Online.
How Long Does It Take: Most jobs will begin with a minimum of three to four hours of hands-on work. How many hours or visits an organizing project, room or home takes depends on many variables such as if the client is working alongside the organizer and the scope of the project.
Fees: Initial phone consultations are free. Clients have a wide variety of organizing projects in mind - each with a number of variables and situations unique to that space or person. The typical residential rate is $50 an hour. Please call or email to discuss your project and needs. This information is necessary to determine exact fees for your particular organizing need.
Off-site projects, such as purchasing organizational supplies for you, writing organizational plans, designing room arrangements, creating labeling systems or making disposal arrangements are sometimes part of the services, depending on your project. These kinds of tasks are charged at the regular hourly rate and are always discusses and agreed upon before the time is spent.
Travel to a job site within a 30-minute drive time is free. Travel time over and above the 30 minutes is charged at the regular hourly rate. Travel distance is limited to Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties, Florida.
On-site consultations and organizing work days are payable on the day of the appointment.
